Review/Summary and some thoughts by Kate Blake, admin Multipleverses
This past week’s episode of Prison Break had a major surprise in store for viewers and was one of the best episodes of the last two seasons in my opinion. As promised by the cast at the beginning of the season this year nobody would be safe and that there would be a body count. The previous episode saw the hacker get capped by the scary company assassin. This week the victim was a character closer to the core gang- none other than Brad Bellick himself! Wade Williams character has been on the show from the very first episode and we have seen him go from being the bully of a guard who tormented Michael and Linc, to losing everything and then going after the money in season 2 and then landing in jail himself. By the time season 3 roled around he was a con having to work with the men he had lorded over and found himself at the mercy of men he deep down feared. Brad did man up though and fought hard to escape from the hell of Sona and bought himself respect from the rest of the Fox River gang along the way.

This season he has been an active part in the effort to bring down the company and has not backed down from any of his assignments. He has shown his fear and a realization that he pissed away his life on greed though and has shown signs of looking for redemption. Before one difficult mission he told Sucre to tell his mother he loved her if he didn’t make it. This week he asked Linc how L.J. was doing and you could hear his longing for what he has never had in his voice. This week the mission in bringing down the company was to find a way across an underground tunnel into the buidling that holds Scylla. Michael was incapicitated by his nose bleeds and headaches and he and Sucre couldn’t get the pipe in place that they were putting across a big water main under the building. They drilled the holesĀ but needed help placing the sleeve into place. Linc and Brad showed up with minutes to spare before the water was going to be back on and jumped in to the big pipe to place the sleeve. Linc was at one end with Brad and Sucre and Michael at the other. Then disaster- the brace they were using failed. Brad jumped in and started to push- once Linc realized what he was doing he screamed to Brad to get across- don’t do this! Brad calmly told Linc- You have a Son- then pushed the sleeve into place and sealed the hole, making the path to Scylla clear and signing his own death warrent in the process. Brad looks up and calmly faces the oncoming water , closes his eyes and is gone.
Wade Williams was brilliant during this last stand of a man who has been pretty petty and small in many ways. It was nice to see that the character who started out as prison guard- one of the good guys- died as one. The entire gang was stunned that he did this. Linc most of all. By bringing things around to focusing on the characters this week and showing them together Prison Break finally really got me emotionally. I have felt the show was a little too much about the chase and the caper this season- by having such a simple setting with four of our key characters - they found the heart of the show again for me which is a group of ordinary men whose lives have not been always the most righteous doing something beyond themselves.
Back above ground, Gretchen had one of the most disturbing scenes ever when she kissed the nasty General and let him call her his number one girl and protege and she went along with it. We know that Miss Sociopath is working on how to steal his card and kill him for revenge on what happened to her. Biggest eww moment? Do you think that her daughter is the General’s child? EWW!
Elsewhere- our Homeland Security agent worked with Sarah to get the company assasin to talk more than he meant to so they could call the General and tell him that Scofield and Burrows are dead. Once they were done- they left the building and let Mahone get his revenge. William Fitchner continues to blow me away this season with the depth of his performances. The broken father avenging the cruel and pointless killing of his child- was raw and grittier than any academy award winning performance.
Next week- the guys are on a short timeline. The company is planning to move Scylla so they have hours to finish their quest and snatch what they need.
