Legend of the Seeker Show Promotion News Roundup

Craig Horner and Bridget Regan were in the US last week promoting LEGEND OF THE SEEKER, here are some of the interviews. Bridget Regan will be on JIMMY KIMMEL tonight!

First up - initial ratings are in and it’s great news! Legend of the Seeker scored a 1.5 rating/3 share primary-run average among 54 metered markets. TV Week discusses why syndicated LOTS is a smart move for ABC and the strength of Xena and Hercules. The Boston Herald talked to Sam Rami about the show.

“It’s not at all tongue-in-cheek in tone,” Raimi said. “It’s really just about telling the stories of these characters and the sacrifices they make for each other. Sometimes it’s about the meaning of real friendship. And always, it’s the stories of the hero’s journey.”

Craig Horner was out and about he chatted with Slice of Sci-Fi - they have an audio interview with him posted. Also he chatted with Newarama:

“We do a really good adaptation,” reports Horner. “I’m a massive fan of the books and the show. I really enjoy both. What they’ve done for the series is taken the mythology, the characters, the relationships, a lot of the stories, and the general narrative of the first book. Wizard’s First Rule is what the first 22 episodes of Legend of the Seeker is going to revolve around but in each episode, we are going to take Richard and Kahlan on new adventures and to new places. If there is a place mentioned in the book, let’s just go there! We have to fill 22 episodes and we need to give fans something to be excited about.”

Craig talked with Sci-Fi Wire about playing a Seeker. And he discusses with New York why even non-nerds will enjoy his show.

Is it true that they cut out sex scenes, toned down the violence to make it more family friendly? And won’t that disappoint fans?
I mean, there’s some pretty gruesome stuff in the book that would not get on television. But I’m trying to make it gritty as much as I can. It’s all about torture, absolute pain and torture, and love and mind control and death, and we go there as much as we can. We just don’t show the guts coming out everywhere. And [Raimi and Tapert] kind of get away with it, because they’re in New Zealand, so they can. This is why Peter Jackson made a frickin’ awesome movie with Lord of the Rings: He was sending the dailies and it would take them 24, 48 hours to get the messages back that, “Oh, this is bad.” But he’s already done it, it’s way too late. You just do it, man! You’re in the middle of nowhere.

IGN chatted with Bridget Regan about her new role:

IGN: Your character, Kahlan, is a Confessor. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
Regan: Even in the book she (Kahlan) says that “it’s so hard to put into words.” And I fought to get that line in the script and I got it, so I was very happy about that. I said it, but I hope it doesn’t wind up on the cutting room floor. It is very hard to explain but it’s a power that you’re born with that’s passed down through the mother and it’s a power that’s held in at all times so it’s more of a release for this power whenever she touches someone. When she touches someone she releases this power into them. Terry Goodkind wrote that it was “additive magic.” It feeds on all the love that a person has within them and adds on it and takes it and turns it into love for the person who “confessed” them, which would be me. At that point, their soul is gone and they’re completely devoted to the one that confessed them. They call it, like, being like a slave for them. It really comes to that. Finding the truth. And getting the truth out of people. And there’s no way out of it.

Bridget’s alma mater UNCSA is proud of her - they wrote up a nice piece about her current career path. She spoke briefly with Sci-Fi Wire and again.

The villains will vary from week to week, Regan added. “Sometimes it may be a sorceress that’s captured one of us or declared a prophecy that’s going to come true,” she said. “We’re always pushing things to the limit and seeing how much we can take, how much we can handle. Every day it feels like it’s the end of the world, and it’s so intense, and the stakes are always so high. And I love that, because it means we have to keep fighting, we have to stay strong and keep pushing.”
