Supernatural News Roundup

Supernatural and Smallville have been having spectacular fall seasons and it is being noticed all over the web!

Here are some assorted news items including some spoilers, reviews and opinions from across the web.

Sera Gamble talks Season 4

Congratulations on Supernatural’s success this year. It seems like people are finally catching on to what an awesome show it is.

I’m not an expert on why these things happen exactly, but for the season premiere this year, we got a million more viewers than we expected. I thought it was a really great episode that Kim Manners directed and I think the story is compelling this year and our fans have been extremely loyal for the past three seasons and really adamant in their word of mouth about the show, so it’s caught on.

Speaking of the premiere, Sam was in a bad place while Dean was in Hell. Are we going to be seeing any flashbacks that deal with Sam’s life while Dean was dead?

Actually, that’s coming up very soon! For sweeps, we have a two-parter, episode nine and episode ten. But in episode nine, which I actually wrote, called “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, we will see several flashbacks to Sam’s time [alone], starting literally 24 hours after Dean was dragged to Hell. If you are a viewer who is interested in what the hell happened to Sam when Dean died, this is what you’ve been waiting for.

Will that include more insight into the Sam/Ruby relationship?

I feel like we’ve been addressing it since the season premiere. We’ve just been unfolding things little by little when it comes to Sam’s story. We didn’t want to just lay it all out on the table because there really is so much going on with that character this season. We didn’t want to give the cliff-notes version. We wanted to peel it back, layer by layer. That’s how we’re dealing with Sam and that’s how we’re dealing with Ruby, as sort of one aspect of Sam’s story. They definitely had things going on. They had a relationship that consisted of Ruby hanging out with Sam while Dean was dead. As for the exact nature of that relationship? We’re being cagey about it. I can tell you, what we really have been trying to do is be mum about what happened to Sam in general while Dean was in Hell because we want the fans to come to the episodes and watch it all unfold in real time. It’s been so hard for me because I hate being cagey about spoilers. There has been so much stuff I haven’t been able to talk about ahead of time. Obviously Ruby and Sam had a lot going on. For the exact nature of their relationship, you’ll just have to tune in and find out.

‘Supernatural’ Exclusive: Meet Sam and Dean’s Worst Nightmare from EW

Evil has a new face on Supernatural, and it looks something like the dude to the left.Okay, it is the dude to the left.

Character actor Mark Rolston (Aliens, Cold Case, Profiler, etc.) has been cast in the recurring role of Alastair, the latest demon hell-bent on terrorizing the Brothers Winchester. His first airdate is Nov. 13.

The original breakdown for Alastair described him as a “calm and composed demon with a placid smileFree Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

that belies his simmering sadism and evil. He’s one of the top demons in Hell. He’s electrifyingly powerful.”

In other words, he’s scarier than Lilith, right? Not necessarily, says a Supe source. “He knows Lilith from Hell, but it’s unclear exactly which of them is the big Big Bad — or if it’s even one of them,” whispers my snitch. “There are a lot of new mythological elements and characters coming into play this season.”

My guess? The dude outranks Lilith. You agree? Disagree? And regardless of where he fits into Hell’s hierarchy, you have to admit this is a pretty cool piece of casting.

A ‘Supernatural’ Woman Talks the New Fourth Season

It wasn’t a scam or a hoax. After Dean Winchester made a Faustian deal in order to help his younger brother Sam cheat death, most viewers assumed the resourceful siblings would somehow find a loophole in the contract. Well, not this time. By the end of season three, Dean had been ripped apart by a hellhound and his soul left rotting in hell. With Supernatural resuming to the CW on Thursday, September 18th, the stakes have obviously never been higher so writer/producer Sera Gamble decided to answer any burning questions about how the Winchester boys would never be the same again.

From TV Guide

Question: Wow. I was just telling a friend of mine how much I missed the old first-season episodes of Supernatural with the urban myth of the week. Then, wham — there’s the awesome black-and-white episode last week! And the boys even mention how it was good that they back to hunting a normal monster on a normal day! I loved this episode, perfect for this time of year. I was wondering what you thought of the direction the show is going (still love the mythology, but man, I love it when they pull something awesome like this out) and if you liked this new Universal Monsters episode. — Jeff J.

Matt Roush: I love the stand-alone Supernatural episodes, this one in particular, because as a kid who grew up on the Universal monster movies — and who had a collection of “Famous Monsters of Filmland” magazines that I now can’t believe I let get away — this one really spoke to me. I love it when the show winks at itself, as in the “Ghostfacers” episode of last season, or the “Hollywood Babylon” episode in Season 2. One reason I enjoy the stand-alone episodes so much is because (mea culpa for maybe the thousandth time) they’re a safe haven for someone like me who hasn’t had the time to invest in this show’s mythology, much as I’d like to. And now to spread some more Supernatural love, here’s a shout-out from Karen B. of L.A.:

“I remember those ‘Best Show You’re Not Watching’ issues of TV Guide and miss them! The best show not being watched by nearly enough people? Supernatural, hands down. This show has been stellar right from the start, but this season, they’ve upped their game to epic status. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are two of the best young actors working together, delivering top-notch performances week after week. And they have the benefit of working with amazing writers like Sera Gamble, Jeremy Carter, Catherine Humphries and creator Erik Kripke. This show holds its own against powerhouse competition like Grey’s Anatomy and CSI year after year, but attention needs to be given to it as truly one of the most outstanding shows on the air.”

From the Mega-Minute- this week’s episode of Supernatural is being shot in the same town seen in the now cancelled series Men in Trees.

iPod product placement in Supernatural is most recalled

According to Nielsen IAG, the Apple iPod product placement in the September 18 episode of ‘Supernatural’ ranked number one, in terms of recall among broadcast network product placements.

The iPod product placement in Supernatural was followed by product placements from renowned TV shows ‘Chuck’ and ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’, which featured the Crown Victoria and the Dodge Ram pickup, respectively.

According to Robert Seidman of TVbytheNumbers, “This isn’t measuring total exposure of the product placement, rather the percentage of viewers who can recall  the product placement within a 24 hour period.  The iPod placement in Supernatural was recalled 2.3 times more than the average product placement.  Even more than a month after it aired, I remembered the iPod scene in Supernatural.”
