Legend of the Seeker based on the fantasy novels of Terry Goodkind premieres this weekend in syndication. Producer Sam Raimi is already working on his next project. Starz has entered the original cable programming market this fall with their serialized adaptation of the movie Crash starring Dennis Hopper. Today they have announced that Sam Raimi will be producing a sweeping graphic novel type adaptation of the classic story Spartacus for their cable network. Head writer will be Smallville alum Steven DeKnight!
The series promises to have the dark, violent graphics we have seen in other motion capture projects like Sin City and The 300. No word yet on who will be cast in the epic lead. This is to be a 13 episode mini-series. If it is successful, expect more work of this kind to make its way to the small screen. Sanctuary on SciFi this fall has shown that a fully digital world can be done in prime time- and the cost for these productions makes great fantasy a reality.
