Sorry about using a BSG’ism to describe the latest news from the team behind Supernatural- but the unsuccessful ongoing pursuit of teeny bopper programming which has limited advertising appeal has led to Dawn Ostroff President of the CW Network to cut budgets on the most successful shows on the network. Smallville’s budget cuts have been covered by cutting high paid producers ( Miles Millar and Al Gough) and trimming the cast dramatically ( limited Kristin Kreuk and possibly no Michael Rosenbaum and/or Allison Mack in season 8). Supernatural which is a two man ( Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) and a many demon show has a lean team on the screen as is so producer Eric Kripke has been charged with telling the end of his demon war story with less money for special effects and shooting.
I THINK THIS STINKS! And I am making an appeal to all Supernatural fans- if you haven’t bought the DVDs to seasons 1 and 2- do so! Yours worn out? Buy some new ones. Watch prices on Amazon and when they go on sale pick them up- buy them for your friends. Give season 3 iTunes subscriptions as presents and don’t DVR the show to watch later- watch it live and dvr whatever else is on at the same time on Thursdays. This cult TV show deserves far better than a Lois and Clark final season(s). LNC which was a charming show was turned into a joke and not the satirical kind the producers of SN do so well- it was turned into a cheesy slipshod production due to ABC cutting their budget to the bone.
This week the guys will be going all reality show and the episode has been shot on handheld cameras ala the Blair Witch Project- so maybe we can have one more really cheap episode next season by doing this again.
Read on BuddyTV about how Eric Kripke has ideas about still producing a quality product by focusing more on the brothers and less on the demon war. I want to know about this strange child demon Lilith and they better allow the show to deliver! Once Smallville and Supernatural are gone this viewer will not be tuning into the CW as its reality programming and teen shows just don’t appeal to this Sci-Fi fan.
