DVR Time Shifted Ratings: Sarah Connor Chronicles

While fans wait for Fox to come clean on whether or not Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles (T:tSCC) has been renewed, now is a good time for fans to look over (i.e., obsess) over the final Nielson Ratings and DVR time shifted numbers for the show in Season 1.Tvbythenumbers has released the DVR time shifted ratings for the last three episodes of the season, which shows a complete picture of the season’s ratings. Since T:tSCC is produced by Warner Brothers and broadcast by a Fox, while Warner Brothers benefits from iTunes downloads and the eventual DVD release, the numbers that are relevant for Fox are real time and time shifted Nielsons, which determine advertising rates. This is the first year that time shifting has being included in the ratings for show performance. While advertising rates are based on +3 time shifting (that is to say, how many people watched a show within three days), reporting is for +7 days. Based on numbers published by tvbythenumbers.com, T:TSCC consistently appeared within the top ten time shifted broadcast shows.

Based on Nielson numbers published by pifeedback.com, T:tSCC started strong at #1 in time slot ranking and then settled into a pattern of ranking at either #3 or #4 within its regular time slot. T:tSCC’s ratings share within the coveted 18-49 demographic was consistently strong. Ratings share is the number of viewers, in millions, who watched from the 18-49 year old demographic, divided by the rounded total number of viewers. Thus if 18.29 viewers total watched and 7.6 people in the 18-49 demographic watched, the 18-49 Rating/Share would be 7.6/18. Compared with ratings for other shows on the Fox network, with the exception of Demon’s Hand, all episodes of T:tSCC were within the top ten broadcast shows.

The number of people who watched started very strong, went through a bit of free fall from episode 1 to episode 3, before settling into the 8 million range. Note: LIVE+SD is the number that watched a program either while it was broadcast or watched on their DVR the same day the show was broadcast.
